Mrs. Indramani Ekka is a member of Maa Beronica Self Help Group (SHG) in Pakurkal village, Kanker Dist, Chhattisgarh state. The family of six own 2 acres of non-irrigated agricultural land and therefore face crop damage when it doesn’t rain. Hence, they depend on agriculture for their livelihood in the rainy season and work as daily wage laborers when there isn’t enough water to cultivate crops.
Mrs. Indramani, later, attended a training program on the Government Welfare Scheme organized by the Bastar Community Development Project for the SHG women where she learned about a scheme that would give motor pump in subsidized rates. The project team assisted her to get the application and to submit the form in the agriculture office of Pakhanjor along with the supporting documents.
As the application was approved, she received a 3 Hp motor pump along with 10 meter water pipe in the same month. Having the water crisis issue resolved, the family is set to start vegetable cultivation in the next crop season and is looking forward to start getting regular income from their field. CSA’s intervention helped the family to improve their social status and Mrs. Indramani, now, encourages other women in the group to access the government facility to start a livelihood to be self-reliant.
