Centre for Social Action has tie-ups with 8 international universities, as part of bilateral cooperation on the community development program and student exchange through a Memorandum of Understanding. Students from partner universities abroad visit CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore for fieldwork placement and service-learning projects. These projects last for a minimum of 3 weeks to a maximum of 6 months. Some students even take up a year-long course as part of their academic curriculum.
Student exchange is an opportunity where international students explore problems faced by underprivileged sections in India. The identification of problems is followed by creative solutions to help overcome these challenges. The students are usually placed in slum development projects of the Centre for Social Action and in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) based on the student’s motivation and interest.
This rich experience contributes to their professional development, personal development, and career. Apart from this, the students also get the chance to visit rural areas and understand the life of the people there, providing them a new perspective.
The international students are guided and supported by the CSA team and faculties from the Department of Sociology and Social work. They conduct weekly meetings to share their learning experiences and are helped to achieve the desired results. It is mandatory for the students to complete the course. On completion, they get a credit from their respective university for the same.
Students from CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore also get a chance to attend these international universities for a semester or for different international programs. Along with the student exchange, faculty exchanges are also organized. Faculty from partner universities take classes for the students, facilitate joint research and student evaluation, participate in seminars, etc.
Memorandum of Understanding: The Connect Between Partner Universities
The international universities who want to collaborate with CSA and CHRIST (Deemed to be University), have mutual interaction with the team and they explore the possible areas of collaboration. Once it is mutually agreed, they develop a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of legal agreement and facilitate the activities mentioned in the MoU. Both Universities facilitate continuous interaction. They also mutually agree upon the numbers, duration, activities, logistics, etc. The students and faculties are given a formal invitation letter for them to apply for their visa. Upon visa approvals, they come for the desired activity. The students and faculties are provided accommodation, transportation, and other facilities based on the provisions mentioned in the MoU.
